About Michaela Main Image

I’m Michaela.

I’ve lived in regional Victoria for most of my life. I am a proud single mum of two amazing young men, my sons Sam and Alex.

Regional Victoria is home. It’s where I’ve built my life, raised my family, and stayed closely connected to community.

My working life has taken a few different paths. I’ve been a farmer, worked in media, small business owner and spent time as a stay-at-home mum. Before entering politics, I worked at Ballarat Community Health, where I saw every day the challenges people face, as well as the dedication of those who work to support others through difficult times.

Those experiences shaped my belief in the importance of strong local services, practical support, and communities where people can rely on each other and get ahead.

I care deeply about preserving what makes regional towns and cities close-knit and connected, while also making sure people here have access to the same opportunities as those in metropolitan areas.

I was elected as the State Member for Buninyong in 2018, and re-elected as the State Member for Eureka in 2022. I currently serve as the Minister for Regional Development and the Minister for Agriculture. These are not just portfolios to me—they are responsibilities rooted in the communities I have always called home.

Each day, I focus on supporting local people, strengthening regional communities, and ensuring people can access the services and help they need.

If you need assistance with a State Government matter, please don’t hesitate to contact my office.

The Eureka Electorate

The name Eureka originates from the site of the Eureka Rebellion, considered by many to be the birth of democracy in Australia. It was here that rebel miners first flew the Eureka Flag. Today, the area is home to the Eureka Stockade Gardens and the Eureka Centre, which houses the historic Eureka Flag.

The Electoral District of Eureka is a mixed rural–urban electorate covering Bacchus Marsh, north-west of Geelong, and east of Ballarat. It includes the southern parts of the Ballarat metropolitan area, including Canadian, Ballarat East and surrounding suburbs, as well as most of the Moorabool Shire and Golden Plains Shire.

The electorate is made up of Bacchus Marsh, Ballan, Brown Hill, Bungaree, Buninyong, Canadian, Clarendon, Darley, Elaine, Eureka, Gordon, Inverleigh, Lethbridge, Maddingley, Meredith, Mount Clear, Mount Egerton, Mount Pleasant, Rokewood, Shelford, Teesdale and Warrenheip, and covers an area of approximately 3,915 square kilometres.
