Works are underway to construct a new bus interchange at Ballarat Station that will improve connections for public transport users and take buses off local streets.  

The bus interchange is being built within the Ballarat Station precinct and will provide 12 new spaces for local buses, making it easier and safer for passengers to connect between services.

It will give local buses a permanent home, taking them off nearby streets and removing the need for buses to wait for long periods of time in front of houses and shops.

The interchange will include pedestrian crossings, CCTV, lighting, shelters and seating, improving comfort and safety for station users. 

The detailed design is the result of extensive consultation with engineers, architects, transport stakeholders and the Ballarat community. Works are being delivered by BMD Constructions.

The project is creating 160 jobs in delivery including new apprenticeships and opportunities for local Ballarat trades and suppliers.

When the interchange opens, buses will enter and exit the precinct from Nolan Street where there will be a new signalised intersection as part of the project.  

The new bus interchange is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $32 million investment in the Ballarat Station Precinct Redevelopment.

Works on the interchange are expected to take around five months to complete.
