FUNDING FOR A BALLAN CRICKET CLUB WOMEN’S TEAM
Michaela Settle, State Member for Eureka, has announced that the Ballan Cricket Club has received a Change Our Game Community Activation Grant to allow them to establish a brand-new women’s team.
The club has experienced a growth in women young and old who want to get in the game, and the Allan Government has provided some funding to achieve that goal. This will be the first time that Ballan will have a women’s cricket team, and anticipation from the women involved has been growing to get started.
The Change Our Game Community Activation Grants program is in its seventh year. The program has provided over $2 million towards grants across Victoria which have benefitted community sport and active recreation clubs and organisations to increase participation, build capability, promote gender equity, and support the professional development of women and girls playing, volunteering, and working in community sport.
This year, there was a strong focus on supporting club or organisation initiatives that encourage the equitable inclusion of women and girls from all backgrounds and experiences. The Ballan Cricket Club was one of 119 successful applicants this year, with a strong application fitting these criteria.
The Allan Government is dedicated to backing local sporting clubs and their communities, and this commitment is just one of the ways that we are promoting healthy participation in sports. As part of our suite of cost-of-living measures introduced in Budget 2024, we have also announced that we have extended the Get Active Kids Vouchers program to allow even more kids to play the sport they love without worrying about the cost of sports registrations, uniforms, or equipment.
Quotes attributable to Michaela Settle, State Member for Eureka
“A new women’s cricket team will be an inspiration to young Ballan girls who want to give the sport a go but haven’t seen themselves represented locally. Ballan Cricket Club is taking the next step in making regional sports as accessible as possible, which is a fantastic move for the wider community.”
