State Budget Delivers $300,000 for Water Street School Crossing safety upgrade
Michaela Settle today announced flashing lights for Caledonian Primary School.
The safety of students and families on Water Street is set to improve, thanks to a $300,000 investment from this year’s state budget for the installation of flashing school zone lights at the Water Street Crossing.
The announcement follows ongoing community concerns raised with Michaela about the speed of traffic in the area, particularly during school hours. Local crossing supervisor Barry, who has served the community with dedication and care, has highlighted the urgent need for increased safety measures.
Our kids’ safety is incredibly important and this funding is a significant step forward and will help ensure families, students – and Barry – are safer on their daily school journeys.
The new flashing lights are expected to increase driver awareness and reduce speed in that zone, creating a safer environment for everyone who uses the crossing.

“Bary’s out there rain, hail or shine making sure our kids cross safely – the least we can do is slow the traffic down for him! This funding means safer journeys to school and a big win for our Caledonian Primary School families.”
