Buninyong students and pedestrians will be safer thanks to road safety improvements getting underway in Buninyong this week.
Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle announced that $120,000 will install kerbs at the school crossing on Midland Highway with works starting this week and to be completed within two weeks.
Buninyong residents have expressed concern about speeding drivers at the Buninyong Primary School crossing precinct along the Midland Highway, which is the entrance to the township.
Currently, the existing school crossing on the Midland Highway, which is at the base of a steep decline, is not very prominent, particularly for motorists coming down the hill into Buninyong.
The project will install kerb outstands at the school crossing, to create a more prominent entrance into the township and make it more apparent to motorists that they are approaching a low-speed pedestrian area.
The kerb outstands on the crossing will slow motorists as they enter Buninyong and help keep the community safe.
Work on the $120,000 project is expected to start today, 19 April 2021, and take two weeks to complete.
Works are also to start on a new safer pedestrian crossing at Sebastopol Library.
These works are being delivered through the jointly State and Federally funded $97.2 million Targeted Road Safety Package, to support economic recovery in Victoria while improving safety on our roads.
