Rokewood sporting clubs and community will enjoy brand new facilities at a new community hub and updated pavilion, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle today announced that Golden Plains Shire Council will receive $3.5 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, which helps Melbourne’s rapidly developing interface and peri-urban councils deliver high-quality facilities for their communities.

The project will deliver, design and construct a new community hub at the Rokewood Recreation Reserve in McMillian Street, Rokewood. The facility will have multi-use meeting rooms, change spaces and public amenities. It will create the space for local events, activities and boost sporting participation in Rokewood.

In total the project will cost $3.96 million with Golden Plain Shire contributing $442,000.

This project builds on the $170,000 grant from the Victorian Government for competition grade lighting at the reserve which was installed in 2020.

This is the third round of Growing Suburbs Fund support for Golden Plains. Funding has previously been provided to upgrade the Ross Creek Play Space and active recreation infrastructure at the Ross Creek Recreation Reserve and develop the new Golden Plains Youth Hub.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has facilitated over $1.07 billion in local infrastructure, created more than 10,200 jobs and supported 299 projects across our fastest-growing areas.
