Smythesdale’s skatepark has been re-designed and upgraded, thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle today officially opened the new skatepark, made possible by a $100,000 grant from the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The old skatepark was a popular destination for young people in the area, but it was limited in design and was in desperate need of an upgrade.

The upgraded park features longer runs, quarter pipes, mogul, ledge and flat bar. There’s more space for skaters and riders to turn around and generate speed, and there’s also a basketball ring, seating, shade, and a water and charging station.

The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is part of the Labor Government’s strong commitment to sports and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

Across Victoria, Labor has invested more than $850 million in community sport and recreation facilities since 2014.

The Government also acknowledged project partners Golden Plains Shire Council for its commitment and financial contribution to the project.
