Indoor sports are set to bounce back thanks to the new timber court at the popular Haddon Recreation Centre, made possible by a $220,000 Victorian Government funding package.
Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle MP was on court today at the Centre to officially open the new floor featuring line marking for a range of indoor sports from basketball to badminton, the installation of benches, seating and basketball rings, along with protective padding and floor matting.
Sport is the lifeblood of regional communities. Home to local clubs including Haddon Badminton Club, the new stadium features a level and even playing surface that will be safer for all users and will require less repair and maintenance in the future.
The new hard wood floor also opens opportunities for local basketball and netball to grow with community groups also able to source the facility for a range of activities from yoga to community meetings. And it’s not just local sports that benefit from this project., Haddon Primary School students are among the most regular users of the Haddon Recreation Centre and the school community gladly welcome this upgrade.
Ms Settle acknowledged the Golden Plains Shire Council for their backing of the project.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $1.05 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014. Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, bringing people together, and fast-tracking community recovery by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
