NETBALL AND TENNIS BOUNCE INTO ACTION IN ROKEWOOD
Rokewood sport enthusiasts can now bounce into action both day and night, thanks to the opening of the upgraded tennis and netball courts, including lighting at Rokewood Recreation Reserve.
Member for Eureka Michaela Settle today joined with Golden Plains Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Cunningham and local clubs to officially open the upgraded courts and lighting, with upgrades made possible by more than $433,000 from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Rokewood Recreation Reserve is a sporting hub for the local community. The upgrade modernises the courts and supports resident clubs the Rokewood Corindhap Football Netball Club and Rokewood Tennis Club to meet growing demand for court time and encouraging even more community members to be active.
This project has seen the reconstruction of two multiuse competition standard hardcourts with line marking for both netball and tennis. The project also included a LED lighting upgrade and installation of undercover benches for players, coaches and timekeepers.
The upgrades mean competitive and recreational tennis players can practice their shots well into the night and netball players can score goals on safe and resilient competition standard courts.
The new facilities will also enable local groups to schedule social sports programs for all residents and encourage greater sport and recreation participation for people of all ages and abilities.
These works follow the 2021 oval lighting upgrade at the reserve, which was supported by more than $169,000 from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Works are also progressing on the Rokewood Community Hub and Pavilion, supported by the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
The Rokewood Recreation Reserve upgrades are part of more than $1.6 billion invested by the Victorian Government in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, levelling the playing field and fast-tracking community projects by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
Ms Settle acknowledged Golden Plains Shire Council for its commitment of more than $216,000 to the netball and tennis court project.
