INTERSECTION UPGRADE MAKING THE WALK TO SCHOOL SAFER

The Andrews Labor Government is making it safer for students and families at Magpie Primary School to travel to school as part of a Midland Highway intersection upgrade.

The upgrade will see the installation of new traffic signals and pedestrian crossing points at the intersection of Docwra Street and the Midland Highway – helping to improve cyclist safety, accessibility for road users and allow better traffic capacity in preparation for a growing population.

Today, around 18 prep students from Magpie Primary School visited the site to learn about the project, construction vehicles and the workers needed to complete the job.

As part of the upgrade, the Midland Highway will be widened from one lane to two lanes to improve traffic flow and crews are currently installing drainage and new pavement along the eastern side.

11,000 vehicles currently use the intersection of Docwra Street and the Midland Highway each day, and this is expected to grow by 20 per cent by 2041.

The works are part of the $60.8 million Keeping Ballarat Moving package – a major investment in easing congestion and boosting safety at some of Ballarat’s most notorious traffic hotspots.
