HOWZAT! NEW SPORTS FACILITIES FOR BACCHUS MARSH
Sport enthusiasts in Bacchus Marsh are set to be bowled over with the completion of a new sports oval with 100 lux LED lighting, and a new six-wicket cricket training facility.
Member for Eureka Michaela Settle today joined Moorabool Shire Mayor, Cr Paul Tatchell and local clubs to officially open the new facilities, which are the latest instalment to transform the Bacchus Marsh Racecourse Recreation Reserve, made possible by a $6.55 million investment from the Victorian Government and a $7 million guaranteed loan from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme.
Michaela Settle MP acknowledged Cricket Victoria for its $30,000 contribution towards the cricket training facility, and the Moorabool Shire Council for its more than $5.8 million financial contribution and commitment to the latest upgrades.
Delivered over multiple stages, the reserve’s ongoing works are providing a home for all things sport and recreation in Bacchus Marsh.
These additions to the reserve will provide a new home ground and training base for both junior and senior teams at the Bacchus Marsh Cricket Club and the Bacchus Marsh Football and Netball Club.
The six-wicket cricket training facility features retractable netting, to provide a safe space for local cricketers to perfect their batting and bowling. Two cricket nets will be accessible to the public, encouraging the local community to get involved.
The new oval includes perimeter fencing, player benches, and 100 lux LED lighting, which opens the ground to night training and games, as well as community events.
The oval and training facility are in addition to soccer pitches, ovals and courts recently completed at the reserve.
There’s also a new all-abilities adventure playspace featuring an accessible spinning dish, a sensory and sound area with three musical instruments, a flying fox with a harness style seat, and a sand pit with a sand table on the side.
