BALLAN GETS ITS VERY FIRST REVERSE VENDING MACHINE

State Member for Eureka Michaela Settle has today opened the very first Reverse Vending Machine kiosk in Ballan. The brand-new kiosk, located at Crossroads Trading on Old Melbourne Road in Ballan, will help reduce the amount of litter in the area and put money back in the pockets of residents. The kiosk will be managed by TOMRA Cleanaway.

The Allan Labor Government’s Container Deposit Scheme – CDS Vic, turns used drink containers into new, recycled products. Reverse vending machines, depots, over-the-counter sites, and pop-up refund points are the four ways that people can return their eligible containers – and depending on the type of refund point, people can choose whether they want to receive the refund in the form of cash, a retail voucher, or an electronic refund.

The network of refund points to recycle containers continues to grow in 2024 – making the scheme even more accessible to Victorians, including those in more regional areas.

CDS Vic is part of the Labor Government’s $515 million investment to transform the state’s waste and recycling system. This includes the new standardised four-stream waste and recycling system, supporting our target of diverting 80 per cent of all material away from landfill by 2030.

Quotes attributable to State Member for Eureka Michaela Settle

"It’s important to keep cans, bottles and cartons out of the landfill and recycle them instead because our environment isn’t just for us to enjoy, but our future generations as well. I was glad to see that Ballan was getting a Reverse Vending Machine, because alongside its environmental benefits, it also gives back to charities and puts money in the pockets of locals.”
